Dealing with Grief and Loss
My left iris got cut and a quarter removed due to melanoma. The repercussion: As the whole iris is a muscle that dilates and contracts with the incoming light, my iris ceased doing so post-surgery in two -thousand, and one Part of my pupil remains permanently exposed. Glare is unbearable, causing my perpetual need for dark wrap-around sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat outdoors, even indoors, as required. My view: While I don’t relish appearing camouflaged in many situations, it’s a small price to pay for life.

Dealing with Grief and Loss
It all comes down to whether a baked idea is a better idea. I get little satisfaction from writing on a mobile phone. Laptops are better, but they’re too bulky to cart around. When writing, I must first jot on paper to be laptop ready. My brain works differently while putting pen to paper, so my writing, regardless of its form, usually takes shape on a notepad initially. The pen-to-paper action acts like a primer that starts my imaginative, thinking, or reflective engine. And like many of my hearty evening meals begun in the slow cooker, the pen-to-paper action marinates my thoughts through writing stints that are slower and more measured for starting them on paper. The laptop is my best friend at that stage, and I find myself hard-pressed to retire from it. Whether I view my brain as working like a slow cooker or a vehicle running on all eight cylinders, I love the written word. I love expressing myself through the written word. I even love the word, word. Being outside four walls and a desk is another creative prompter for me. For instance, though it requires upkeep, my garden is a place of relaxation, reflection, regeneration, and vision. It’s an ideal environment for me to entertain an organic mind. I can make decisions while gardening; therefore, a trusty notepad is always within my reach. For me, a slow-baked idea is undoubtedly a better idea.
Why are notepads my thing?

Dealing with Grief and Loss
Listening to actors confined to chairs in make-up trailers and watching audition tapes and table readings may be as dull as watching paint dry for some. For me, movie-making enthralls. After great films, I hunt for "the making of" or behind-the-scenes footage to get a glimpse of creativity at work.

Voiced Sneezers
NEW AUTHOR + AWE QUOTES (4)_edited.jpg
Some people sneeze gently and quietly, as though they don't want people to know they're sneezing. I call these people "Coy Sneezers" because their sneezing sounds like a hiccup. Others emit more noise when they sneeze, usually giving rise to the voiced sneeze. To me, these are "Established, Sneezers." Then, some sneeze with great force, looking and sounding like they're exploding. I call these individuals "Missile Sneezers." Of course, there are many variations to which our sneezing type takes. Besides the Coy Sneezer, we often blurt out non-sensical words and phrases as we sneeze. For many of us, sneezing has a technique and a language all of its own. Some people delay mid-sneeze before finalising it. My partner, Sonia, is one such person. Her sneeze goes like this, "Haik……choo," with perfect elocution. Sonia's an "Established Sneezer." The fiercest voiced sneezer I've ever encountered was my Dutch father. What an eruption: HUTCH. He blew his top and mine in the same room, undoubtedly a missile sneezer. The way we sneeze may be something we adopt to a degree. I’m an “Established Sneezer” who tends to be a missile YAWNER!
