My dishcloths are usually blue, not this morning. This cloth, draped over our kitchen tap, has solid yellow stains all over it.

Our washing-up cloths are usually clean because we replace them often enough. Last night was different. The culprit - turmeric, an Indian spice that I use in my, let’s be clear, non-traditional Indian cooking.

My mouth waters at the mere thought of Indian food, so I was keen to find some recipes on YouTube. When I recently came across Rainbow Plant Life, a vegan food and lifestyle website, my search was over. The Vegan Red Lentil Curry was the first delectable meal on my list to make, so I gave it a crack.

Though my spouse and I aren’t typically vegan, I know I’ll cook that dish again and again. With that, there’ll be more stained dishcloths in the future.

As for the scattered yellow stains on our benchtop, lemon juice will fix that.

Why is my dishcloth yellow?
